Real Women - Real Experiences- False labor pains in a primi (A woman who is pregnant for the first time )
A 21 year old woman, married for 1 year, pregnant with 31 weeks running, housewife, resident of Khandeshwar, Panvel, Navi Mumbai, came for consultation for pain in lower abdomen of one day duration.
She was a registered case at Cama Hospital, Mumbai and has been doing regular check ups , blood tests and ante natal sonography.
She had come to us for the first time in emergency as her own doctors were far away.
Upon examination her uterus was relaxed, on PV- per vaginum examination, cervix was long, posterior and os was closed.
All the signs indicated that she is not in labor.
An ultrasound was done and it too was normal.
A diagnosis of false labor pains was made , and symptomatic treatment with tocolytics -uterine relaxants and bed rest at home .
A woman who is pregnant for the first time- Primi may not be able to differentiate between true and false labor pains
