When to do ultrasound to detect pregnancy before taking abortion tablets if the periods are irregular
A 31 year old woman, resident of Kharghar consulted Dr.Himani R Gupta,Gynecoloist & Obstetrician from Kharghar Navi Mumbai.
Her periods are irregular and she missed them in this cycle.
One week back the UPT was negative.
But today it came back positive,now if she wants to take abortion tablets,she needs to do ultrasound.
As her LMP can not be relied on it is difficult to judge when to send for sonography.
If done too early, gestation sac may not show.
If done late, and 7 weeks are crossed then she misses the chance to take abortion pills.
Best way is to do it when the lines are dark and if the G Sac is not shown then repeat it.
