Second trimester unwanted pregnancy,domestic violence,mental harassment,legal separation
A 31 years old woman, married for 4 years, resident of Kharghar came for consultation for missed periods.
Her periods have been irregular coming at 45 days interval.
Earlier when she checked , the pregnancy test was negative.
Today when she checked it was positive.
She thought it is an early pregnancy and will get terminated by abortion tablets.
When we did ultrasound, it turned out to be a 14 weeks pregnancy.
Though it was a love marriage, inter-caste but she was undergoing a rough patch with her husband.
Facing alcoholism, domestic violence and mental and financial harassment.
She obviously was unwilling to continue with the pregnancy.
As now she is in her second trimester, the procedure will be different, long, painful and surgical.
She had come without her husband but now husband needs to be informed as his signature on consent paper is required.
She was not sure if husband will give consent.
She also shared that she is thinking of separating with her husband but she had yet to declare that to him.
The legal part of such a scenario is that when matter goes in the court, this kind of cases usually end up dragging the abortion process into the matter and both parties try to gain advantage out of that.
The wife may allege that she was forced to abort.
The husband may allege that this was not his biological child.
The things may take a real ugly turn.
