Real Women- Real Experiences- 8.2.19-DUB Leading to Severe Anemia
A 45 year old female , resident of sector 15, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, presented with complaints of irregular heavy and prolonged menstruation ( Meno-Metrorrhagia) for 1 year duration.
The woman did not seek medical advice as she thought that it might be sign of approaching menopause.
Though her family members along with husband have been worried, they could not convince her.
At some point she started having buzzing sound in head.
Finally she consulted, and sonography of pelvis, showed, multiple fibroids in uterus, adenomyosis and thickened endometrium.
What was alarming was her blood tests.Her hemoglobin dropping to 5 gm %.
As this anemia has developed chronically, her body has been compensating, but for how long? No-one can answer that.
Antifibrinolytics, progesterone hormones, Ormiloxefene, all were started to control bleeding, to which she responded.
Parenteral IV ( Intra Venous ) injections of Iron-Sucrose complex were started, which she tolerated well and responded within 24 hours with improvement in subjective symptoms.
Surgical treatment like, D&C and subsequent Laparoscopic Hysterectomy will be offered as definite treatment to her once her general condition improves.
